MAXAM Australia is part of the MAXAM Group, a multinational company, supplying explosives and related services for over 100 years in more than 50 countries. Our clients are primarily in the quarrying, civil construction and mining sectors.

MAXAM now have an opportunity for an experienced full time Finance Manager to join the team within our Head Office based in Brisbane.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will be a degree qualified Finance professional with strong experience within the mining or manufacturing sectors, you will be responsible for effectively directing and leading the Finance team to ensure the accurate and timely provision of all subsidiary financial information to the Senior Executive team both nationally and globally.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting:
  • Ensure accurate reporting of monthly results and reporting to parent company
  • Prepare year-end financial statements and provide supporting information for external auditors
  • Develop and monitor procedures and systems for monitoring costs against budget and preparing variance reports
  • Accurate advice and trend analysis on financial aspects of management decisions, strategies and results


Budgets
  • Preparation of the Australia and PNG annual budgets in conjunction with senior managers and business managers
  • Preparation of monthly forecasts for management review based on current available information
  • Forecasts are prepared for Head office as required and loaded into Hyperion


Risk Management and Compliance
  • Review all risk management policies and make recommendations as appropriate to ensure that MAXAM is not exposed - insurance, foreign exchange, interest rates etc
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial and taxation statutes and regulations


Financial Management
  • Cash flow monitoring against projections and budget and report departures to the Regional Director together with strategies for improvements
  • Control of all overseas financial transactions ensuring compliance with FX policies and Group payment terms
  • Investigation and recommendation of alternative finance and leasing arrangements as required
  • Continually review internal systems and procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all internal reporting, including receivables, payables and inventory management
  • Liaise with all management regarding opportunities for cost or margin improvement, proactively giving advice where it is appropriate
Ideally the successful applicant will possess the following.
  • 7+ years' experience in a senior financial role within the mining services or manufacturing sectors
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of working to tight deadlines and autonomously
  • Attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Ability to build good business relationships with stakeholders
  • CPA/CA qualified
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Commerce
  • Fluent in English, other languages are valued, in particular Spanish.
In return you will join part of a small and dedicated team in Australia and be a part of the Global Finance team for MAXAM Group.

A competitive salary will be negotiated based on experience.
