About UK Research and Innovation

UK Research and Innovation works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities, and government to create the best possible environment for research and innovation to flourish. We aim to maximise the contribution of each of our component parts, working individually and collectively. We work with our many partners to benefit everyone through knowledge, talent and ideas.

Operating across the whole of the UK with a combined budget of more than £8 billion, UK Research and Innovation brings together the seven research councils, Innovate UK and Research England.

The UKRI Finance team of around 150 people are based across a number of UK sites, with responsibility for enabling the delivery of high-quality financial services to ensure public funding for research and innovation is spent efficiently and effectively.

Our impact is felt across the whole organisation where we work with policy makers, leadership teams, researchers, programme and project managers, engineers and scientists, to share perspectives and expertise, influence decisions, and put forward creative solutions to problems.

Key activities and responsibilities include UKRI’s overall budgeting and associated financial planning at Corporate and Council level, provision of financial advice delivered through a network of finance business partners and financial accounting processes within the Councils, including the production of the Statutory Accounts.
