About Enfield Carers Centre (ECC)

ECC's mission is: "To improve the lives of carers in Enfield by championing their right to have choice about how their needs are met and to have a voice in shaping how services are developed for those they care for." The Centre acts as the central hub and point of contact for carer services in the Borough and implementing the Council's strategic aims of enabling carers:
- to be respected as expert care partners and have access to integrated and personalised services they need to support them in their caring role
- to be able to have a life of their own alongside their caring role
- to be supported so that they are not forced into financial hardship as a result of their caring role
- to be supported to stay mentally and physically well and treated with dignity

ECC provides a holistic whole family approach to ensuring timely and practical access to its services which include:- benefits and information advice; legal advice sessions; advocacy; counselling; respite care; support group meetings; support for young adult carers; support for working carers; outings and social events; complementary therapies; and carer assessments. There are currently just over 5,300 people on the Centre's register of carers who are receiving a range of these services which are delivered by a team of 15 full and part-time workers and are overseen by a Board of currently 6 trustees.

ECC's audited accounts for 2016/17 showed incoming resources totaling £523k and a reserve balance being carried forward of £400.6k. The Centre's main funder is Enfield Council which has just replaced its system of grant funding voluntary sector organisations with a new competitive tendering process, as a result of which ECC has been successful in securing a new 3 year contract as the lead partner of a consortium of local voluntary organisations delivering services for carers. The Centre has also established a good track record of attracting resources in addition to its core funding and has been successful in obtaining grants from, amongst others, the Big Lottery, Children in Need, the NHS, London Bridges Trust, the Henry Smith Foundation, Carers Trust and Warburton's Families Matter Fund.

A key strategic aim for ECC is to continue to find ways of not being solely reliant on the local authority as its main funder by having fundraising as a main priority in order to be able to further develop its services.
