About NHS Wales Finance Academy
The NHS Wales Finance Academy is a part of NHS Wales and its programme is developed by, and on behalf of, the NHS finance community.
The Academy is chaired by the Director of Finance, Health and Social Care, Welsh Government, and all NHS Wales Finance Directors are members. Other members include representatives from the accounting bodies (ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA and ICAEW) and the Health Financial Management Association (HFMA) Wales Branch, as well as staff and student reps. The Academy also has formal and informal links with other public and private sector organisations.
The Academy aims to ensure delivery of the NHS Wales finance vision: Finance Adding Value through it's overall programme which has four themes, each sponsored by a senior Director of Finance from NHS Wales:
- Developing our people
- Working in partnership
- Innovating and adding value
- Driving excellence
The Academy formally meets every two months as part of the NHS Wales Directors of Finance forum. A Core Programme Team supports the overall work programme, and works closely with the Director of Finance sponsor for each theme. The deliverables for each theme are agreed annually and finance staff from across all NHS Wales organisations work together, and with partners, to deliver these either through one-off project groups or through the sub-group structure of the Directors of Finance Forum.
The Finance Academy, and the Core Programme Team, is hosted by NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership.
