Top 5 Tips for a perfect cover letter
Top 5 Tips for a perfect cover letter
1. Focus your letter every time
The more you can align the letter to the specific requirements of a post, the better the letter will resonate. Read the person specification and use this as the basis.
2. Keep your letter short
Most recruiters are timed pressed. There is little point including lots of detail. Keep your cover letter to three or four short paragraphs.
3. Your cover letter should complement your CV
Your CV and cover letter need to act both independently as well as together. They form part of one application so ensure consistency in presentation, tone and content.
4. Cite your major achievements
Present your two or three most impressive achievements. You can repeat information from the CV so long as you use different words. After all, repetition is the basis of effective advertising.
5. Ensure coherent paragraphs
Make sure your letter contains three or four paragraphs with coherent themes. Of course, your letter should be proof-read and contain no spelling mistakes.
