Qualification
Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study, employment or voluntary work.
  • Accredited Clinical Coder qualification.
  • Must have completed Foundation course, specialty course and refresher course


Desirable criteria
  • NHS Digital Clinical Coding Approved Auditor status


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a coding analyst using ICD-10 & OPCS 4.
  • NHS experience of coding audit programmes in an acute Trust.
  • Experience of report writing.
  • Experience of using computer based administration office systems.
  • Experience of successfully working to service level and performance targets.
  • Specific audit experience covering a wide range of operational coding audit and feedback.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of developing and implementing data quality policies relating to coding.


Skills
Essential criteria
  • Ability to gather, analyse, interpret and present complex data and information from both electronic and paper case notes.
  • Ability to give constructive feedback to staff in coding techniques.
  • Well developed analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to think beyond boundaries, the ability to consider different approaches and solutions.
  • Ability to write detailed reports.
