Biffa is seeking a Finance Business Partner to join its Resources and Energy divisional finance team. The individual will be a key member of financial and divisional management teams, taking full responsibility for the Material Recycling and Plastics Recycling Facilities financial information. In addition, you will support the commercial teams in contract tendering. You will be the primary contact for Business Unit Director on all financial matters and play an essential part in the development and optimisation of the business through the sharing of insight and the implementation of key projects and processes.
This is a full time permanent role and post-COVID-19 restrictions, will be expected to work flexibly, including from home. Some travel may be required given the geographical spread of the operational sites (North London up to Hartlepool).

- Lead, manage, and develop a finance team.
- Prepare robust, reliable accurate financial information for the business unit in-line with the company's timetable, including full profit & loss account with analysis and commentary, balance sheet and cash flow and project profitability reporting. Ensure regional period-end close and submissions are made on time and in full.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts and five-year plans for the business unit, bringing financial rigour to plans and aiding decision making.
- Develop a commercial partner relationship with operational management, providing key metrics and analysis as a foundation for sound commercial decision making. Take a lead role in the development of accurate, meaningful analysis and commentary aimed towards front-line staff, their daily activities and decision-making processes. Improve staff awareness at all levels of finance and cost / revenue as a key factor in all business decisions.
- Support the commercial team, including contract tendering.
- Recommend and prepare financial business cases for investment, capital expenditure and change programmes.
- Oversee capex forecasting and monthly reporting.
- Ability to improve business processes and systems whilst translating and simplifying high volume data into highly relevant management information and proactively seek and recommend profit improvement suggestions for the business unit.
- Develop a range of Key performance indicators for use across the business unit and identify areas for potential improvements. Where necessary pro-actively support and introduce any operational changes.
- Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place. Review, maintain and improve cash-flow, margins and reporting.
- Adhoc projects as required by FD, FBP and Business Unit Lead.
- Qualified accountant with over 3 years PQE
- Advanced Excel and top class analytical skills
- Experience of managing and engaging a small team
- Excellent commercial and operational financial management experience gained in a B2B environment
- Preferably experience in one or more of the following sectors - logistics, manufacturing, production, business process outsourcing, waste and/or renewable energy
- Adept interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and influence others at all levels
- Commercially astute with the ability to challenge and communicate recommendations to senior management
- Adabtable with the ability work effectively under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines
- Lead by example displaying a hands on attitude when needed with teams and customers
