Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and lead analysis activities for AZ's Genomics Initiative. This initiative, launched in April 2016, has the bold ambition to analyse up to two million genomes by 2026 and will be carried out by AstraZeneca's Centre for Genomics Research (CGR). Using the data and state-of-the-art methods for genomic analysis, CGR will investigate underlying genetic causes of disease and integrate genomics across the entire drug discovery and development platform. This work is fundamental to driving the discovery of novel precision medicines.

The Role

The Business Analyst, Genomics - Science and Enabling Units IT will operate within the Early Science Business Analysis team. You will be accountable for the end-to-end analysis activities to support CGR's objectives, as a world-leading genomics research-unit. You are responsible for understanding, analysing, validating and documenting CGRs requirements and working within a delivery team that includes subject-matter experts, software architects and engineers to develop IT solution to facilitate CGRs objectives.

Accountabilities include:
  • Act as an end-to-end Business Analyst as a part of an agile software delivery team
  • Define and draft system scope and objectives and translate these requirements into 'user stories'
  • Liaise between the technical team members and the business stakeholders to agree on user requirement scope and delivery.
  • Assist in design specifications ensuring that requirements are met, tested and implemented.
  • Proactively research products, procedures, and workflow needs and identify ways to bring together, validate and integrate information to improve overall business process performance.
  • Support the CGR in adapting to delivery of new systems, such as developing, documenting and improving business processes.
  • Lead and champion agile development of impactful and innovative solutions according to business priorities.


Qualifications

Ideal background:
  • Experienced Business Analyst with a track record of successful agile IT delivery of complex, data-heavy software systems, preferably Scrum delivery of IT systems.
  • Able to demonstrate an ability to take on challenging domains and have a real passion for science.
  • A keen desire to learn about and work within the field of genomics.

OR
  • Genomics subject matter expert.
  • Experience of IT system development.
  • Keen desire to progress their career in R&D IT, to learn, perform and champion best-practice IT development techniques and processes to build world-class, sustainable solutions.

Coupled with;
  • Great communication and team-working skills.
  • Educated in a numerical, scientific or technical discipline or equivalent experience;
    • For Business Analysis experience, preferably with a qualification (e.g., IIBA or BCS)
    • Academic qualification in Genomics, Bioinformatics or Computational Biology
  • Ability to think and analyse situations from both a strategic objectives and organisational level as well as at a detailed information and data-flow level.
  • Ability to develop excellent working rapport with key stakeholders at all levels.
