Reporting to the Managing Directors of the Investment Management team, I will need this individual to be responsible for the oversight of the Finance functions within this area as well as being a key member of the investment leadership team

This role will require you to deliver on a number of areas but the main three being: Business planning, Financial Governance and KPIs.

The team works with funds, institutions, universities, receivers, national portfolios and private developers on the disposal and acquisitions of properties. They have an excellent track record to date of successful investments and developments but they continue to have aggressive growth plans and their vision is to be global leader in student accommodation by 2025.

Description

Team leadership

  • Provide technical/functional leadership to team members across debt, transactions, risk and compliance and underwriting;
  • Ensure all team members have clear and stretching personal and business objectives and provide appropriate challenge and support to enable teams to meet and exceed these;
  • Financial Control/Reporting/Forecasting

  • Deliver an efficient and cost-effective accounting solution for the business, exploring outsourced solutions where viable.
  • Ensure a strong financial control environment is in place and adhered to across the business.
  • Manage cashflow ensuring sufficient liquidity is maintained and surplus balances are returned or repaid promptly.
  • Deliver good quality, timely and insightful MI to the business to enable is to make the right decisions.
  • Lead the annual budget process, in-year reforecasts and longer-term (5-year) planning exercises.
  • Fund Control

  • Work with the Head of Fund Control to rationalise existing Fund Control structures and processes to deliver an efficient and scalable solution to fund controlling.
  • Review existing fund accounting processes to ensure that we have efficient and cost-effective long-term solution/s in place.
  • Debt

  • Work with the Head of Debt to ensure appropriate debt facilities are arranged to facilitate real new estate transactions and/or refinancing of existing debt facilities and key terms and covenants are optimised, fully understood and embedded in the business.
  • Ensure all debt facilities, covenants and obligations are being monitored and delivered as necessary.
  • Development Finance

  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place and being applied globally.
  • Oversee the ongoing management of development debt facilities including supplier payments and bank drawdowns.
  • Regular monitoring of development progress and KPI reporting, ensuring cost and programme challenges are fully understood and appropriate mitigants in place.
  • Risk and Compliance/Tax

  • Work with Risk and Compliance Manager and Group Tax Expert on identifying and implementing optimal structures for new transactions.
  • Ensure compliance procedures are in place across all investment vehicles and potential breaches are considered and dealt with appropriately.
  • Role Modelling

  • Role model continuous improvement - assessing current process, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementation with buy-in from key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop team, provide coaching and support for employees to realise their potential and provide performance improvement plans for employees not meeting expectations.
  • Profile

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with 10+ years PQE.
  • Ideally experience working in international real estate or private equity experience.
  • Ability to manage and communicate with senior stakeholders internally and externally and build strong positive relationships.
  • Proven experience in managing teams and developing others.
  • Experience reviewing structured finance transactions document and knowledge of corporate governance, relevant local laws and regulatory requirements would be beneficial
  • Ideally familiarity with complex/many fund structures (global in nature)
