This is a unique opportunity to join a specialist team within Group Internal Audit that focuses on regulatory assurance engagements and conduct matters. This team provides independent assurance both directly in respect of regulatory requests/projects and indirectly by supporting the divisional-led portfolio teams and other internal stakeholders, ultimately to ensure Audit fulfils its role and responsibilities to the boards and regulators.

The Manager, Regulatory Assurance will support the GM Audit and H/O Audit in overseeing the planning, execution and reporting of reviews in the regulatory assurance portfolio and provide SME support to other portfolio-led teams on regulatory matters.

You will need to be a strategic and pragmatic thinker, have technical experience in designing an appropriate independent assurance approach and able to engage and influence high level stakeholders across the organisation. With the support from the HO Audit, you should also be able to execute “one off” reviews without established methodology/testing precedence from past reviews and deal to ambiguity.

Your accountabilities will include
  • Deliver regulatory expertise and excellence by leading (or help to coordinate with other teams) in providing independent assurance on regulator requested assignments, remediation programs, and other special investigations or projects
  • Support HO Audit (and/or coordinate with other teams) in providing responses for organizational wide regulatory notices, responses and remediation.
  • Support the design of appropriate regulatory assurance plan across key regulatory “hot spots” and perform ongoing risk assessment to ensure suitability.
  • Support Audit’s response to areas of regulatory change and emerging conduct risk.
  • Provide guidance to other portfolio-led delivery teams on scope and approach of regulatory assurance activities
  • Drive Conduct Risk considerations on relevant assignments
  • Support GM and HO Audit on engagements with regulators and other internal stakeholders and build effective working relationships with them
  • Support the HO Audit on managing the logistics associated with the portfolio
  • Contribute to board thematic reporting on regulatory/conduct matters
  • Support the uplift the Audit team’s capability in dealing with regulatory matters and continue to foster an environment that promotes a high performance and development culture.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to colleagues to promote a performance and development culture.
  • Program manage a portfolio of concurrent audits within agreed resource and time budgets
  • Contribute to Annual and Dynamic Planning as directed
  • Provide strategic guidance to audit team leads on scope and approach.
  • Socialise audit reports with business contacts and manage negotiation to audit report finalisation.
  • Form effective ongoing working relationships with business contacts to facilitate delivery of audits and contribute to audit’s annual plan creation and update.
Experience, skills and qualifications:
  • Extensive experience within Internal Audit or Risk Management / Assurance, ideally from a “Big 4” accounting firm or regulators
  • A relevant tertiary qualification with appropriate post graduate/professional qualification (e.g. CA, CPA CIA).
  • Preferably have significant experience in providing assurance to regulatory and conduct matters. This includes having the ability to design test approach for “one off” assignments without the necessary methodology/test precedence.
  • Excellent teamwork, internal stakeholder management skills and the ability to work with variety of people across all levels of the organisation;
  • Strong communication and influencing ability
  • Flexible and comfortable working in an agile, fast and constantly changing environment
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Preferably some experience (but not essential) in dealing with financial industry regulators including APRA, ASIC and AUSTRAC from an assurance perspective
  • Experience working in a matrix organisation structure.
