Superb opportunity for an established VAT Manager to have great autonomy within an established and very experienced tax team. Working closely with the core finance team amongst other non finance colleagues.

Description

The key responsibilities of this VAT Manager role based in Bristol are:

  • Maintain a professional working relationship with UK HMRC and Irish Revenue VAT officers, acting as the main contact point for correspondence, disclosures and inspections
  • Act as internal VAT helpline to answer technical queries from the business as required, including Irish, Spanish and non-EU jurisdictions with support from external advisors as required
  • Where appropriate liaise with external VAT specialists for highly complex and international issues, similarly keep abreast of all VAT legislative developments and keep the business informed accordingly
  • Audit, review and improve current policies and procedures in respect of VAT
  • Where VAT errors are identified, work with the relevant teams to rectify and prevent future errors occurring, and where appropriate make voluntary disclosures to HMRC and the Revenue
  • Provide advice on VAT clauses for supplier and client contracts
  • Identify areas requiring training and improvement. Create the course material and deliver training sessions to the business (Finance, fee earners and other teams) to improve general VAT understanding
  • Provide technical VAT advice for ongoing business projects including:
    o Delegated Claims Handling
    o Making Tax Digital
    o Replacement/Upgrade of (Elite) accounting system
  • Profile

    The successful candidate for the VAT Manager position based in Bristol will have:

  • Indirect tax specialist either ACCA, ACA or CTA; or qualified by experience
  • An understanding of accounting concepts essential
  • A strong background and detailed knowledge of UK, EU and non-EU VAT in both a compliance and advisory capacity
  • Able to work effectively as part of a wider Finance team essential, and balance regulatory / legislative requirements with business capabilities
  • Must be a motivated self-starter, able to forensically analyse books, records and accounts for VAT compliance
  • Able to communicate confidently both orally and in writing at all levels and to convey complex financial and accounting concepts in a clear, straightforward manner
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter, able to work well within a team environment
  • Strong skills in Excel are required
  • IT literate with good knowledge of current accounting system technology. Experience of working with the Elite accounting system would be an advantage
  • Able to be flexible in terms of a changing environment and constantly-changing workload
  • Organised and able to handle multiple demands and deadlines simultaneously

    Base Salary up to £62,000 (Experience Depending)
    24 days annual leave - Rising with length of service
